Friday, I'm in love...

(Okay, my title is from a cheesy Cure song - but it IS Friday, and those were the only lyrics I could think of!).

Thanks to all of you for rallying behind me, in response to my ridiculous visit with the "nutrionist". The more I think about it, the more ridiculous it seems. The thing that I actually forgot to mention (which makes things worse), is that she's a specialist in pregnant women. She had about 5 certificates on her wall, with various degrees in nutrition. And she's actually a registered dietician. Well, it was a waste of time and I won't go back to her again. End of story. And I don't believe for a second that I'm "destined" to contract diabetes during my pregnancy just because of statistics. Why would I have gone to see her otherwise? There ARE certain things that we can control to a certain degree, and this is hopefully one of them.

So today, I realized I wouldn't be able to get an exercise in, because my aunt is visiting from the States this weekend, and the hubby and I need to drive to my parents' place this evening. There's a very yummy lunch place which has a HUGE variety of salads, hot foods, and desserts. It's about a 35 minute walk away from my office....so I decided to go for it! Getting there was fine - I grabbed my food to go (so that I could eat back at the office), and quickly left. The walk back was REALLY hard. I was sweating buckets, because it's so warm outside. And, knowing that I had some piping hot, yummy food in my bag made it even harder. But I made it! And I feel great.

I got: some steamed broccoli, a handful of curried chick-peas, some caesar salad (vegetarian), some baby spinach salad, some tabouli, 2 pieces of sweet potato, some veggie pate, a small piece of pizza on whole-grain, and some chinese-style seitan (it's like gluten - a protein). Yum!

I also got a dessert, because I figure after a 70-minute walk, I could cave in a *little*. I got a walnut square, with some date paste, encrusted in coconut flakes. Oh, double yum.

Now, I'm sleepy. My eyes are drooping. I still have a couple of hours of work to get through. I do have an office - with a couch. Perhaps I could lower the blinds and have a quick nap. Wonder if anyone would notice?

Nothing like a food comma, happens to me everyday at 2pm. Your lunch sounded awesome!
The chance of someone noticing would depend on if you have windows :)

Hee hee... i know what you mean about nap time!!

I love what Le Commensal is all about! Very cool.

Good for you to take time to enjoy dessert. You ARE eating for two and your little one probably was hoping for some sweetness after the meal.

:o)

That food sounds good. Good job on the walk. My friend is pregnant and due in 3 weeks. I remember the begining she was tired all the time. She would be in bed around 7 or 8pm. As the pregnancy got further along she started keeping normal hours, but I guess your body really has to get use to everything. I can't wait for it to be my turn, but at the same time I can. 1 year..it will be here before I know it.
