Tea for...three.

Well, I've got some exciting news to share. The image on the left is a picture of a picture, so please forgive its quality....but in case you can't make it out, it's a baby. My baby.

I found out fairly recently, and have been trying to grapple with the news. My hubby and I are absolutely thrilled. We're also very overwhelmed. I can't believe we're going to be parents.

We're due in late December - around Christmas time. I'm told that due dates are never really accurate, but we'll hope our little bean is on time. If the baby is anything like his/her father, he/she will be late with a good excuse.:-)

So, what more to say, except we're going to keep a sex a surprise until delivery day...so we'll have fun guessing girl / boy until then. My work doesn't know yet (but of course, blogland is one of the first to find out!)...I'll be telling them in a couple of weeks.

It's really wonderful and exciting.

So what does this mean for my weight loss journey? Actually, a lot. Of course, I won't be actively TRYING to lose weight over the next few months. But I'll be fighting very hard to maintain for as long as possible.

The reason is, I'm still about 35 lbs overweight. That puts me at risk for developing diabetes and high blood pressure during my pregnancy. Unless I take my health into my own hands. And I sure as hell plan to do that. And since I've already got a bunch of meat on my bones, my doctor doesn't think I'll gain a ton of weight during my pregnancy. In fact, we've set a goal of no more than 15lbs.

So, that won't change my blogging. Or my efforts to eat well and exercise. So, I'll continue to update regularly (with some baby news here and there!). I know it seems like, "well - what more motivation do you need?" - and you're absolutely right. But some days are still tough - especially when I feel fatigued and nauseous....and just plain troll-like with all my acne having returned like I'm sixteen years old again. And it's funny to say this - but it's not always EASY to remember that I'm pregnant. I mean, I think about at least 20 times a day...but since I can't feel the baby move yet, I still feel like I fairly normal person.

I'm planning on running a 1/2 marathon next September. So, once the baby has arrived, my training for being a mom AND runner will begin. I can't wait for both! Especially the baby, of course.

So - there you have it. Sorry that you'll have to read about a grumpy pregnant lady's musings from time to time...but I'm going to be striving for health all around over the next few months. And I know that all of you, as usual, will be motivating me along the way.

And finally - I found a GREAT study that says that eating a little bit of chocolate during pregnancy makes for happier babies. It's TRUE. The hubby isn't quite convinced - but I'll work on that!

congratulations gorgeous. That is awesome!!! Being pregnant and having your first baby is so exciting. I remember it well.

A friend of mine just had a baby girl and only gained 10lbs during the pregnancy as she was about 25lbs above her goal..so good luck, eat healthy and get out and go for a brisk walk everyday hun, the better shape you are in, the easier labor is. Seriously!

I don't think that I've been to your blog before but I would like to congratulate you and the father! I just wanted to say that I was quite overweight (and still am, sigh) when I got pregnant a long time ago and I ended up weighing 2 kilos less at my first postnatal check-up than I did at my first prenatal one! I still don't understand how it happened! I suppose I just kept eating the way I had and didn't eat for two. Then I lost more weight breastfeeding but it all came back when I stopped.

Just came upon your site...
Congrats on the baby...
Isn't the sound of the heartbeat the coolest thing in the world...
Remember the first stages of a pregnancy is like hiking a mountain a day...
so do not be heard on yourself for training as your body is already working overtime in getting ready for your baby to grow...
Congrats!!!!
And the second trimester rocks!!!
