A bit of a stall at the starting line...

Okay, here goes:

- I'm up 2lbs over last week. No surprise, because I was not feeling well, ate comfort foods, and didn't have much activity.
- I had a bit of a relapse with my cold over the weekend, so I didn't get to the gym.
- I ate more comfort food because of the aforementioned relapse.
- I feel like crap right now.

You're probably wondering why the heck I write posts about how motivated I am to get this weight off but then, in the next breath, I don't seem to make progress. Let me assure you that I am very motivated. The week before last, when I got to the gym 4 whole times, it was incredible. And since this cold has come over me, I've been stuck in a rut.

Also, I've discovered some bad habits that I've acquired:

(1) if I mess up even a little bit during the day (like, an extra tsp of maple syrup on my morning oatmeal, or an extra square of chocolate) - I decide that my entire day should be sabotaged. It's like, why bother if I can't be perfect, you know?

(2) if #1 above takes place, I fall into the whole, "I'll start fresh tomorrow" trap.

(3) if #2 above takes place, I always feel that "farewell" food is in order. You know, the last ditch effort at eating crappy because tomorrow is going to the be my "fresh" start.

It's all a bunch of total malarkey! And I know it.

For me, losing weight is 80% mental, and 20% physical. Maybe even more mental. And like the week before last, I just need to get started. I've done this before, and I can do it again.

I apologize for the temporary interruption in programming....but the starting credits are beginning to roll now. I promise.:-)

Yes, I've been working really hard on leaving that kind of perfectionism behind, because it is SUCH a trap! And none of us are perfect, so we can't live up to it anyway.

Ha bloody ha, we are twins, I'm sure of it! I did exactly that today, in for a penny in for a pound, was feeling stressed out and ate....and ate.... and ate.... tomorrow I will start again... now what can I eat before tomorrow rolls around??? What a laugh!!!

You nailed all my dieting pitfalls, but most especially the farewell foodparty. Forget being perfect and go with the babysteps approach - much easier.

You can do this.

I messed up this weekend two and had a much bigger gain than I wanted :-) I gained more than two pounds. Lets gets on track eating with each other.
Don’t beat yourself up. You can’t restrict yourself thin and eating a little extra chocolate is far from blowing it. There is no such thing as a perfect eater aside from Jack Lalane. Maybe you should journal your food per calories that way if you eat some chocolate you take it from your over all daily food. Non starchy vegetables, splenda and vinegar would be free foods but you still journal them.

Another thing you might want to add some videos so when you say I don't feel like leaving my apartment you have something inside.

Wow, I think you've written something that was in a lot of heads including my own. What is it with perfect, I mean really as human beings we can't possible be perfect we're too good at self sabotage for that. What is perfect anyway?
Plus you were sick and that throws your body for a total loop.
You can do this and we're in this together.

By the way it is buy 2 get one free for skin care at the Body Shop and that includes Vitamin E Cream. I worked there for 10 yrs, been gone for 4 but I'm still a fan of some products.

i think the reason why so many people fail on diets is because in order to achieve success, its based on being perfect... if you're not, then you feel like a failure but in reality - being imperfect is human nature... if there was a perfect diet, why are so there so many kinds... if there was a perfect exercise, why are there so many informercials on tv promoting a DVD...

i'm just making a general statement, not trying to pick on anyone here... we're all different and for some, trying to lose weight is easy (i personally don't know anyone like this) and for others, its a struggle... but its a good struggle and you'll get thru it, just like i'm trying to do and probably 100s of others... ;-)

If I eat more than 4 points at breakfast I think the day is a write-off - I'm really trying to teach myself that if I mess up a bit in th emorning then I'm still OK for the rest of the day.

Bah, mind games, that's what it is with me!!!

So glad R laughed like that - isn't it amazing????
