I think it's going away (knock on wood)!

Thanks for all of your getting well wishes.:-) I'm feeling a LOT better now - enough to get back to the gym tomorrow morning. I still sound like a troll, but hopefully my lungs will hold out on me when I jump on the treadmill!

I honestly think that I got sick because I'm not leaving the house enough. In fact, someone had posted a link about viruses in air circulation - got me thinking! The baby STILL hasn't gotten over her cold. And when I thought more about it, I realized that we hadn't left our little apartment for over 7 days. Yuck! We really need to make an effort to get a *little* fresh air everyday....but that'll get a lot easier once the winter has passed.

I'm looking forward to starting Week 2 of my C25K plan tomorrow! Unfortunately, things are a bit wonky because I'm starting on a Saturday - but eventually, it will get sorted out.

I go to the gym in my condo - which is really convenient for me, given all that I have going on. It's fairly tiny - one treadmill, one elliptical, and an exercise bike. There are a bunch of free-weights, one weight machine, a bench, and a couple of stability balls. I used to complain about it a lot - but now, I realize there's enough there to get me going!

Last Sunday when I was working out, there was a 7-month pregnant woman there with her personal trainer. Awesome! I like to pride myself with the fact that I was fairly active during my pregnancy with yoga, swimming, and walking. But this woman was doing sidways push-ups and squats like there was no tomorrow!

Just as she was leaving with her trainer, I found myself interrupting them, and asking the trainer for her card. As I was watching them, it got me thinking....would it be good for me to start training with a personal trainer again, at least once a week? It would be good motivation, and nice to have someone to push me through that extra mile. I've worked with trainers before, and it's always been an amazing experience. The only drawback is the cost. Seeing as I'm on maternity leave right now, we're on a pretty tight budget.

But then again, maybe I need to start putting me first when it comes to health. So, I've made some important decisions.

I've decided to work on the first 15-20lbs on my own. My goal is to lose 15lbs by end of May - that's about 1lb/week. WHEN I get there, I'll hire a personal trainer to help me through the last 20-30lbs. I'd like to get there by end of November. What does all of this mean? By my birthday (first week of December), I WILL be very close to my goal weight. Not my pre-pregnancy weight, not a "good enough for now" weight - but a HEALTHY weight for me.

My daughter's birthday is on December 21st. I'm going to help her blow out the candles on her first birthday, at my goal weight. I can hardly weight. I mean, wait.:-)

The last several years of my life has been focussed on my weight - and I'm soooo tired of it. I'd like to get on with it, already! And I know that maintenance won't be a walk in the park - but I'll cross that bridge when I get there. For now, I want to get down to business - once and for all!

You new plan sounds pretty good, and a loss of 1 pound a week is totally realistic, so go for it! I too am looking at getting a PT, but only once a fortnight I think. I know it's a pain being on a weight loss kick for years, but hey, if we have a tendency to gain weight, it is going to be a life long battle, get used to it girl !

Hi Sonya,
Thanks for your comment on my blog! The Couch to 5K program is a great way to get into running--it's got a great balance of walking & jogging early on, so you can really build up safely. Doing triathlons was only a fantasy of mine for several years before I got up the gumption to actually do one (I had to learn how to swim first!). If it's something you want to do, you could do it :-)

Congratulations on having your baby, by the way!

i like this post! So uplifting and inspiring.

I have an even smaller gym with less equipment at my condo than you have, not that i often use it, but just knowing it's there is sorta comforting...

Go, you!! Good to know you're feeling much better also. I'm not one to stay inside much and need fresh air big time. (And i don't get any when i'm in the office and not out in the field at work, yuck!)

A personal trainer seems like a very smart and healthy reward for losing the first 15lbs. I'm doing my own version of C25K just now. Good luck.

Sounds like you have a good attitude about your weight loss and by making mini goals for your self it will seem alot easier to achieve! ;) I am hoping that by the time I get to my goal weight I WILL be pregnant! I can hardly wait to be where you are at ... I know that probably sounds funny - but true! :)

Good luck to you on your weight loss journey!

Yes, a pound a week is completely realistic. And I second your feelings about wanting to not have to think and stress about our body issues for once and all! I don't know if that will ever happen, for me at least.

Let's hold each other accountable - I HAVE to lose this weight!!!!

I love your fabulous, reasonable goal-setting!

Here's hoping we're both up to regular life this week after our colds from hell.

You rock! My older sister is a Mom too, and I've seen how hard it is to find time to take good care of yourself when you're also being a great Mom. You deserve to achieve your goals and with your positive attitude, it sounds like you can do anything.

Best wishes for your future 10k

Glad you're feeling well. Good luck on the plan. Thanks for the comments on my blog. Warm bodies burn more calories than cold ones. Warm water probably doesn't make that big a difference, but it helps warm the body.

Sonya, my husband is happy to share the program he wrote for C25k; he just thinks it will take a geek on the other end to know how to use it. It may also only work on Macs--I'm not sure and can't reach my hubby right now. If you think y'all will want it, shoot me an email at veggiepaparazzo@gmail.com

glad you're doing better!

and yes yes yes to the trainer. i know the cost is exorbitant. it's shocking and horrifying to me. yet i do it as well because i really think it's worth it. my trainer pushes me so much, and i'd be nowhere near as in shape without him.

and how convenient for you to have your gym in your building! i wish i had that.

I'm excited for you! And I love stability balls. There is something about them that makes me think of recess.

Hope you are feeling better now - best wishes for the week ahead.
