Who knew that weight training could actually be fun?

Thanks for all of your supportive comments. I'm pretty sure that my gain was due to water retention - my intake has been horrible lately. Mainly, it's because I don't like drinking lots of water when I'm out with the baby, because then I'll have to pee, and I can't leave the baby alone....and well, you get the picture.

Yesterday, a water pipe burst on my street. It was a major problem, and all the units in my building were without water for 14 hours. No tap water, operating toilets, nada. It was awful! Anyway, I had my training session scheduled for yesterday evening, and I almost cancelled.

When I got down to the gym, the place STANK. It seriously smelled soooo gross, I couldn't stomach it. My trainer was a good sport about the whole thing, but I could tell he was suffering too. After about 10 minutes of smell-torture, I couldn't take it anymore. So my trainer was like, "Do you want to train outside in the park?".

So off we went. At this point, I'm expecting a fairly light workout - afterall, what kind of weight training can you do in a park?

Well, it turned out to be one of the hardest, but funnest (is that even a word?) workouts that I ever had! We did calf raises on some concrete stairs. I did step-ups on some big concrete blocks. I did pushups against a brick wall. We brought some resistance bands, so I could work my triceps and back.

It was chilly outside, but I was warmed up in no time! It was wonderful to be in the fresh air. My trainer even played music from his cell phone to keep me going - which was really cute. So all in all, a fantastic workout. He was so creative outside, even though he had no notice.

The water is back on today, thank goodness. And I am SO sore. But I'm starting to feel really fit, and that's so exciting. Forget about the pound gained - this athletic feeling inside of me RULES!

Yay! Your trainer has redeemed himself in my eyes--what a wonderful way to "roll with the flow" and make the best of the situation. I hope you got a full hour, though :-)

Sounds like you have a great trainer. I especially like that your trainer play their cellphone music for you. Haha! LOVE it!!

PLUS now you have knowledge of what you can do outside of a gym. :D

Good for you for taking away the importance of a stupid number on the scale....a better measure of your success if how you feel about your body and your fitness.
That workout sounds like it would be really fun! It's always better to go out and get some fresh air instead of always being inside a stuffy gym!
The cellphone music is super cute! Sounds like you got a good trainer!

I am so proud of you! I think getting out and using the park for your workout was brilliant. You are going to be that much more prepared when you are working out without the trainer. :)

YEAH SONYA!!!!

Weight training is wonderful work! I love doing it... Glad you made it work for you, and that your trainer is so on the ball, in every sense of the word! Nothing wrong with working out in the great outdoors... Keep up the great work, and don't fret over water retention... that's how life and our bodies go, Sonya!

Sounds like a great trainer. The weather has been really nice lately, and I would so much rather be outside instead of inside during school/work.
