Just when I thought I'd already hit rock bottom...

Well, my blog is all about being brutally true to myself, so I gotta write about it all.

We were just at dinner at my in-laws' place. My two little nephews were over (aged 5 and 3). The five year old ran up to me when I walked in the door, and gave me a giant bear-hug. And then he asked, "Why is your tummy so big?".

I honestly felt my heart crack a little. My eyes welled up with tears so fast, I just didn't know what to say. How do I begin to answer that question to a five year old when I can't even explain it to myself?

Needless to say, I'm embarassed beyond belief. There's only one way outta this - and that's to do something about it. Onwards and upwards, as they say.

Oh hell, that would have been awful for you, and I know just how you felt! Only I have been asked on countless times "when is the baby due?" which is just as awful.... you know what ya have to do to never have that question asked again babe... good luck and I hope you can feel better about yourself soon. Kids are so open and honest, worst luck really!

I feel your pain....I've been there. What an awful moment. I would have ran out of the house bawling my eyes out. It's so embarassing.
Don't let it discourage you though, you can do this, you can conquer this weight loss thing and you'll never have to live through dreaful moments like that again!

Don't be embarrassed!!!

The parents of your nephew should be! What a poor parenting job!

Try not to dwell on it. Just so you know we've all had embarassing moments like that. ((HUG)) You can do this! All the best.

We HAVE all had embarrassing moments like this-- kids have a way of innocently picking out the things about our bodies we'd most like no one to notice. I once had a two year old look at me and notice that I have a lot of moles and proclaim, "You're a DALMATION!" I was mortified. In fact, I can't believe I'm writing about this experience. I must have matured and accepted my spots at some point :-) Anyway, you have such a good attitude, Sonya; I hope this won't bring you down for any longer than it already has! You're motivated for all the right reasons; this incident is something to just try to forget about & move on from...

Yep, been there! It sucks... And when it happen to me, his mother weren't nice enough to keep the laughing to herself...

Really, their parents should be embarassed. They should teach their child that beautiful come in all sizes.

Just today I was pushing my boys in the stroller and one of them said really loudly, "hey mom! look at the really fat lady!"
ooooh. I wanted to crawl under a rock. But he's three, and was saying in such a joyful way like it was such a great thing, something he'd aspire to...it was a challenge to try to explain why people don't want to hear things like that.

ugh. I've been on both sides. NOT FUN!

oh Sonya, I am so sorry you were embarassed. Just the other day we were at a party at one of my coworker's house and one of them brought their little daughter. She walked up to me and asked "are you pregnant?". I was mortified. Only Norman was around to hear it, but still. I started to tear up right away, too. I just wanted to go home. It's painful to hear things like that.
chin up, pretty lady :)
