"I want to wake up in a city, that never sleeps" (and always eats).

Well, I'm off to the Big Apple this weekend! I probably won't be blogging until after I get back, because I'll be busy getting myself organized for the trip. Yes, it will actually take a couple of days to pack with my six-month old baby hanging about! Never imagined how difficult it would be to get the smallest task done, I tell you.

This is my first trip without the baby. And let me state - I've changed my mind almost everyday about going. The song has gone a little something like this:

Baby laughed when I kissed her tummy yesterday - we are SO not going on this trip
Baby smiled when she saw me first thing in the morning - no WAY am I seperating from this cutie-pie
Baby refused to eat her carrots at lunchtime - hmmmm - a break would be nice
Baby had a cranky afternoon, and cried a lot in the evening yesterday - well, yes, when are we leaving again?
Baby hugged me this morning, and gave me a kiss (well, it wasn't a real kiss - she actually thought my cheek was her milk source! But I'm going to pretend it was a kiss anyway) - I am SO not going on this trip.

I am going to miss her like mad. At the same time, I think I need the break. She's staying with her grandparents, so I'll probably call ten times a day to check on her...but it's not going to be easy. Hubby keeps telling me that I should enjoy the mini-break because I'm not going to have one again for a long time. He's right, I know - but he also doesn't spend 24/7 with the cutie-pie.

Well, NYC is full of exciting things to do. Places to see. But most of all, incredible places to eat. My lovely fellow blogger Pinknest can attest to that!

There won't be any watchful eating over the weekend. There won't be any crazy gorging, but I do intend on having dessert with my dinner. I'll also be visiting Trader Joe's for the first time, and plan on bringing stuff back. I'm very excited - we Canadians miss out on the whole Trader Joe's experience. Any suggestions as to what to buy?

When I return, I'm going to ratchet things up a bit on this weight loss effort. Things have been going okay over the past couple of weeks - but again, we're progressing in molasses-like speed. I need to start seeing and feeling some results!

But I'm not going to discount some of the progress to date. I have started to build really healthy habits over the last few weeks. My diet has improved dramatically, and I have definitely been moving this body more often. Now, I just need to push myself that little extra bit so that my body will start shedding!

Wish me luck - hopefully my heart won't break into a million pieces without the baby, and hopefully I won't come back having gained 10lbs from this trip!

In my experience it's the leaving & the coming back that are the hardest, but I usually have no problems with missing the kids while we're actually gone. When it's time to go home though, I get so anxious, it's like we can't move fast enough. I hope it's like this for you too so you can enjoy yourself while you're there!

Enjoy your holiday. NYC oh what fun! I'm sure the grandparents will do just fine. Although I have never been to one, I've been wishing and hoping that Trader Joes would some how find its way to the great white north.

Bonne Voyage.

Hi Sonya!!

Have a fabulous trip!! I know how hard it is to be away from the wee one, especially the first time, but it will be so good for you. Please don't waste a single second doubting you should go. She is going to have a wonderful time being doted on by her grandparents, and you will get some much needed down time. And if you start to well up missing her, just remember - she has no concept of time! :)

I'm working on putting together this challenge, so it should be all ready for you when you get home. :)

ooooooooh! Yay Sonya... i hope you have a blast!!!

i know you are going to miss your baby - how could you not!? - but i am so happy your hubby will have some time to bond with her... him having some private time with her... that's important, too!

Sonya, your heart won't break. You'll get a little break and you'll be refreshed and renewed (and your visit to Trader Joe's will also rock your world) and you'll be closer with your sweet bundle of joy than ever before.

Trust me! Trust your hubby! Trust yourself...

HAVE FUN!! BE SAFE!!

Happy Canada Day to you too!
For sure the trip to TO will happen, it's just a matter of when. I'm thinking more towards fall because I'm not where I want to be size wise :)

woo hoo! my must-have items at Trader Joes are mostly refrigerated/freezer ones, unfortunately. But they have lots of roasted nuts, small cookies, great snacky chips, that are not too bad for you. Have a great time!
