Post Mortem on Day One

This is a quickie post. The little lady of mine is sleeping on my bed (she just fell asleep there during a snuggling session), and I'm petrified that she's going to wake up and roll off. So, I'm typing away nervously, and ready to jet to her rescue at any second! Chuckle, chuckle - the life of being a mom.

So, yesterday went VERY well. I ate amazingly well, drank a ton of water, and managed to spend the day with NO sugar. The only sucky thing was that I didn't make it to the gym. The cold took over my body yesterday, and just about ran me into the ground. I went to bed at 7pm (never happens!) and slept all the way through to the morning. I needed the sleep. So, I'm not feeling guilty - will just make it to the gym tonight.

Two notables from yesterday:

- I was craving sugar in the afternoon. I swear, after lunch is like the "bewitching hour" for me. So, I made myself a cup of "Sweet Ginger Tea". I've had it at one of my favourite vegetarian restaurants before, and managed to convince one of the wait staff to tell me what was in it. (Well, she said have to kill me if she told me, but whatever).

Sweet Ginger Tea (kills any sugar cravings, and I described to a friend of mine yesterday, it makes you feel like you're wearing flannel pyjamas on the inside of your body): Slice two thin-ish pieces of fresh ginger into a mug. Add a green-tea bag. Pour boiling water, and allow to steep for 3 minutes (er so). Take out the bag, and add one tsp of pure maple syrup. Stir, sigh with deep satisfaction, and take a sip.

- I made another Veganomicon recipe for dinner. I swear, this book is insanely amazing. It was the "Spicy Tempeh and Broccoli Rabe with Rotelle". Sounds fancy-schmancy, huh? Well, it's basically grilled/sauteed tempeh in a spicy fennel sauce served with garlic-rapini on whole wheat rotini pasta. SO filling, and SO yum. Plus, chock-full of protein with some steamed greens thrown in, to boot. Photo to follow - I'm just terrible with uploading photos from my camera.

That's all for me. Day Two. So far, a good morning. I need to go and drink my water, and then make sure that my little one hasn't hurled herself off my bed.

Have a great day!

So proud of you - and look at your cooking skills, you're going to be a master in NO time!

I didn't try the tea last night... but it's in my near future I predict.

Sounds like you needed the sleep. See if you can get your hands on some honeybush tea - also good for those sweet cravings.
