It's nearly the end of my first day back at work after fifteen months.
I can't believe it. Suprisingly, I haven't melted down in angst with missing my daughter. I've only called home five times today. Not bad, if you spread that out over a few hours. It was nice to put on a smart outfit, do my hair, wear make-up, and carry a purse to work (instead of looking like a disheveled crazy lady in track pants and a massive diaper bag!). Except I have to do this everyday for the forseeable future. Ah well - will keep doing it until the lottery comes through.;-)
I slaved away in the kitchen for a few hours yesterday, and made the following healthy meals for the week:
- lemony lentil and vegetable stew (SO good and easy - I made the whole thing in the pressure cooker)
- Corriander-spiced tofu
- Indian-style mixed vegetables
The fridge is stuffed. I get to go home (in 25 minutes!), hang out with my daughter, and then no cooking! Yay.
Today has been great foodwise - I had a smoothie for breakfast, some toasted almonds and berries for a morning snack, some quinoa-vegetable soup with chick-peas for lunch, and a protein bar in the afternoon. I feel good. Only 1.5L of water. My first day, I was feeling nervous about carrying a water bottle around, so I have to do a bit better tomorrow.
I would really love to go to the gym this evening, but I'm so wiped after my first day. "Going to the gym" sounds amazing in theory, doesn't it? I can actually imagine myself there. Lacing up those shoes and walking over there, however, is another matter entirely. Ah well - I'll give myself a break tonight depending on how things feel when I get home.
You know how busy people get more stuff done? I think I'm like that. The more I have on my plate, the more productive I am. I hope that means I'll have the energy to go to the gym a few nights a week.
I know I shouldn't be blogging from work - but it's my first day back, and things are a bit slow.;-)
Boring blog entry. I'm tired after a long first day of work (didn't sleep a wink last night!). I miss my little girl too.

wow, that's quite a first day! And kick ass food eating to boot! Woohooo!!
Not boring at all, Sonya! I'm so impressed with your food for today - I need to be better about planning, again! I know what you mean about your busy theory - I think I'm like that, too. The more I do, the more energy I have. I hope this transition goes smoothly for you and your little one!
Even though I was a bad mommy friend and didn't write you to wish you luck and give you words of advice, I WAS thinking about you... while I was driving to work this morning.
You sound like you're doing well though, and I'm the same, the busier I am, the more productive I am!!
And ah the gym... I was supposed to go, but hubby was home late so we are only eating now and seeing as it's almost my bed time I don't think I'll make it.
Thinking of you this week!
glad you survived the first day back to work... i, on the other hand, cannot wait until i no longer have to work (baby or lottery, which ever comes first)... ;o)
Glad your first day went well. I need to plan my meals like you. I would it if you could share your lemon lentil stew recipe some time.
Glad your first day back wasn't too bad! GREAT work planning meals. It will be great to go home tonight and hang out with your little one :)
Keep up the great work!
Glad to see you survived the first day back. Hope you're not too lonesome for your daughter. All the best for a great week. Food sounds delish.
Glad to hear everything went well your first day back!
Thanks for the kind words, Sonya :)
